Mahjong Solitaire, Free With No Ads

Clear the board by removing matching pairs of free tiles. There's nothing to download, no account to create and no ads between games. You get 10 layouts, four difficulty levels, a new board every day, unlimited undo, and deals that can always be won, unless you turn off Winnable Mode for fully random ones.

Many sites leave you to find out for yourself which boards are hard. Here, the difficulty levels are measured. We ran thousands of simulated games on every board at every level, and we publish the numbers.

    How to Play Mahjong Solitaire

Click a free tile, then click its match, and both disappear. Removing tiles opens up the ones around and beneath them. Clear every tile to win.

    What Makes a Tile Free

    • Nothing can be resting on it, even by half a tile.
    • Its left side or its right side must be open. A tile with neighbors on both sides is stuck.

    What Matches What

Most tiles need an exact twin. The exceptions are flowers and seasons: any flower matches any flower, and any season matches any season. The tile guide shows every tile.

    Tips for Clearing the Board

    • Work on the top layers and the long rows first. The tiles at their ends hold up the most others.
    • When all four copies of a tile are free, remove them right away. It can't hurt.
    • When three copies are free, think before you choose. The pair you pick decides which tiles open next.
    • Watch for a tile sitting on its own twin. If those are the last two copies left, you can't finish.
    • Use undo freely. There's no limit, and with Winnable Mode on, every deal has a way through.

The strategy guide goes deeper, with worked examples of the traps Hard and Expert deals use.

    Mahjong Solitaire FAQ

    What is Mahjong Solitaire?

A one-player tile matching game. You clear a stacked layout of tiles by removing matching pairs. It uses the same tiles as the four-player game of mahjong, but the rules are completely different, and there are no hands or scoring to learn.

Is this really free, with no ads?

Yes. There are no ads, no download and no account needed. Signing in is optional and just keeps your stats on every device.

    Which tiles can I remove?

Only free tiles. A tile is free when no other tile sits on top of it, even partly, and its left or right side is open. On every level except Expert, free tiles look brighter.

Do flowers and seasons match each other?

Any flower matches any other flower, and any season matches any other season, even though their pictures differ. A flower never matches a season. Every other tile needs its exact twin.

    Can every game be won?

Yes. Each deal is built backwards from an empty table by placing pairs in free spots, so a winning order always exists. You can still get stuck by removing the wrong pairs, which is what undo and shuffle are for. That's with Winnable Mode on, the default. Turn it off in Settings for fully random deals, where a win isn't guaranteed.

    What does Shuffle do?

It rearranges the faces of the remaining tiles into a new board that can still be won. You get unlimited shuffles on Easy, three on Medium, one on Hard and none on Expert.

Can I play with a keyboard?

Yes. Press Tab to reach the board, use the arrow keys to move between free tiles and press Space to select. Press S to shuffle, or the question mark key to see every shortcut. Screen readers announce each move.

Can I replay or share a deal?

Every deal has a number. Click it to copy a link, and anyone who opens the link gets exactly the same tiles.
